inPerson How To

How To

How To Place A H.323 Call

  • Enter # plus IP address.  Use * in place of a period.  For example, to call a Polycom unit at IP 24.91.131.154, enter #24*91*131*154

How To call another inPerson device using SIP service

  • Enter the number of the party you wish to call, such as 1000006289 (that's 1, 5 zeros, 6289)

How to place a multi-party call using SIP Service

  • Go to your web control panel and add some money to your account via Credit Card ($30 minimum).  You will be charged $0.50 per minute for multi-party calls.
  • Call 9006
  • Open your contact list and select your party. Select "Send Invite".  This will cause the video conference bridge to call them.  You may do this for 1,2,or 3 parties (4 max including yourself).  The cost is the $0.50 per minute regardless of how many parties you have on the call.
  • To end the call with a certain party, select that party from your contact list and select "Send Invite" again -- this will disconnect them.

How To Put Your Unit On An Outside Address

  • If you are going to receive H.232 calls, your unit has to be reachable by the calling party, which means it needs a public IP address.  The most common way to do this is to put your unit in your "DMZ"
  • Start by getting the IP address of the inPerson (we assume it is connected to your network and got an IP address automatically).  Go to "Main Menu" and select "System" then "Information".  Your IP address is shown as "IP Address (Ethernet/LAN)".  It is something like 192.168.1.101, 172.10.10.5, 10.10.10.5, etc.  Write it down.
  • Go to your router and log into it. Every router is different, but you want to find the DMZ settings.  This is commonly under "advanced" or "Gaming".  Enter the inPerson IP address here. Your mission is to set the router so that all traffic coming to your router is sent to the inPerson.  Note your "WAN" network IP address.  This is the address people will use to call you.  For example, if your "WAN" address is 24.91.134.154 and your inPerson is 192.168.1.101, then everyone outside of your LAN sees your inPerson as 24.91.134.154.

How To Use Webcam

  • Anyone with a Windows computer and an working Webcam can call  you.  You cannot call Webcam users.  They simply enter your inPerson number and your inPerson unit is called.

Bad Audio / Video

  • Virtually 100% of the issue with video quality is bandwidth related.
  • You MUST have at least 256 Kbps of symmetric bandwidth in order to conduct video conference.
  • You can get FASLE POSITVE results, but here is a reasonable way to determine if you have enough bandwidth: http://www.speedtest.net
  •  If you run the test now, it does not mean the results are valid 5 minutes later. For business users, and home networks with multiple users, everyone is sharing an Internet connection.  If someone starts downloading or uploading a large file, starts streaming, or starts another video call, they are using bandwidth so less is available to you.  Generally, if the above test says you have plenty of bandwidth, you are likely to be okay.  It virtually never gives you a false negative result!

External Audio/Video

  • To set the video to output to the external video jack on the rear of the unit, simply press the "TV/LCD" button.  This does NOT change the audio.
  • To set the audio to the output jacks on the rear of the unit, select the menu key (the funny symbol on the key above the arrows) and navigate to "Speakers".  Set it to "Line Out".  Don't forget to set it back when you want to use internal speakers!

Echo Cancellation

  • Echo cancellation is built-in when you use speakers or line-out, but NOT when you use the headset jacks (makes sense!).  However, this means that you should not use the headset audio output for external speakers or else the other party will hear echos.

How To Access Your SIP Control Panel

How To Update Your Firmware

  • Select Main, System, and navigate to "Check Firmware Update".  If there is a new firmware available, it will be downloaded automatically.

How To Stream and/or Record Your Videoconference

  • Set the inPerson for external audio and video (see above)
  • Connect the audio and video output to a Discover Video Multimedia Encoder or a VBrick appliance (video-out to video-in, audio-out to audio-in) using a standard A/V cable
  • You may wish to set the inPerson video output to full screen by pressing the "OK" button and then pressing an arrow key to cycle through various Picture-in-Picture options.
  • Start streaming and/or recording

How To Add A Picture

  • When you are not in a call, use the menu key (the funny looking key to the right of of the left arrow key) and select "Snap Photo".  This will create a photo from the camera.  Add this to your profile.
  • When you are in a call, use the menu key and select "Snap Photo". This will create a photo of the other party.  Add this to your contact list so you have an image of who you will call.
